The school does not want to be associated with this sort of language so the HT has asked what can be done to hide it. Would blocking the follower remove them from the school's followers list as I can see no other way to hide it?
CAM Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 You can flash block someone to make them disappear without them knowing. Just block and immediately unblock and they won't even realize until they notice you have disappeared from their feed. But really, it isn't worth worrying about. It's only when you start following questionable accounts like ISIS or the BNP that people will start raising eyebrows. Anyone can follow you on Twitter and no-one cares who follows you.
rad Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 What others post surly isnt any of the schools problem, the only issue I see if if they write a tweet that the school is tagged in, but then again there isnt a lot you can do about this anyway. We have over 1000 followers, I am in no mind to trawl through their tweets, what we dont do is follow any account.

GuyJD Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Sounds to me like the HT doesn't really understand the way Twitter works, personally I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you're not following back I don't think anyone could assume you condone the language used.

If they are a parent, surely they have as much right as anyone else to view the feed? I'd expect to get an earful from them if you block them to be honest. There is literally nothing you can do about this other than start blocking. Which would entirely defeat the purpose of having a Twitter account. The best route here is to educate your HT.

Would blocking the follower remove them from the school's followers list as I can see no other way to hide it? Yes, but I'm not seeing a reason for it. The school is not responsible for what a parent posts on social media.

LosOjos Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 To help explain why this isn't a problem, your head needs to think of the Twitter account like an extension of the school's website; it exists for you to share information with the world. Anyone can access that information, and if they want to see any further information they can 'follow' the account. This merely informs them of any new information you have shared. This no more associates the school with that person than that person visitng your school's website. In short; you have no more control over who follows you on Twitter than you do over who views your website, and it has no more reflection on the school either.

Not sure how this works or the impact of it - just that i had to await approval when i signed up to follow my son's school. I'm sure it's my age, but I'm still not convinced by all this new fangled social media stuff - even before I was approved, the first thing that happened after I signed up to follow the school was that I got loads of messages suggesting that I might like to follow a bunch of teenage girls on Twitter (at his school, who are presumably also following the school account). Seemed totally inappropriate to me.
rad Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 If you lock down your twitter account it can only be viewed by those that follow you. If you enter a competition, tag a company etc, they wont be able to see it. As you have only been going 2 weeks, it sounds like your HT is checking the accounts that are following you, he needs to relax otherwise he wont have any followers.
