Hi All,

Looking to setup a moodle web server but my terminal code skill arnt up to much theseday. I've done everything on ubuntu desktop which works but i would like to be able to disable the GUI mode when not needed to reduce resources.

If i were to run

 apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Would this just make the server OS identical to the desktop?

Looking for best security so im assuming the Ubuntu server is better locked down and more stable to run 24/7.

Thanks

Yeah spotted that. Found the option to not add in the extra stuff like firefox etc but thne you dont get the things like the networking manager for ip addresses etc.

Just wondering if we should stick with the desktop version. Just checked the status of the UFW firewall and its disabled so cant see any differences.

Comparing moodle on ubuntu desktop and server 2012 iis shows how much more performance you get in ubuntu even with a gui.
