HP Pro 6* vs Elite 8* Desktops?

Have a choice between a HP Elite 8200 SFF i5-2400 and a 6300 Pro i3-3570 SFF desktop.

 

Processor is better on the 6200 but the 8200 is HPs top Elite range.

 

Is this a realiability vs performance thing or is it just a marketing ploy to get you to buy the Elite's?

 

I know our LEA insists on going down the Elite line for all of their products.

The pro's I had were plasticky and nasty the Elites were robust and lovely.

Was that in the SFF range?

 

I've got a 8200 in front of me (LEA machine). Just trying to find pic of the 6300 3rd gen. Seem to be in similar cases from what i can see.

Whilst the chassis on these machines is essentially the same, the chipset is different. on like for like generation (HP 8300 vs 6300) the 8 series has an intel Q77 Express vs the 6 series Q75 Extress. The 8200 has the older Q67 express.

 

However, HP use inferior components in the 6 series and generally only send the machines out with 1 year warranty which suggests reliability isn't quite as good as the 8 series with a standard 3 year warranty.

 

From personal experience I'd say stick with the 8200's they're lovely machines anyway and even though they're slightly older the 2400 is still a superb cpu!

 

Plus there's one guy in the office who nicked a 6300 pro for his desktop machine (we all still use quad core 8000 elites otherwise) and guess who the only person to have had hardware trouble is?

 

Edit: Can you not get 8300 elites? I've got loads in stock right now so they must still be plenty on the market.

Roughly £50 more for the 8300

 

Were coming from having AMD Dual Core 5000B processors with a 1273 Passmark Benchmark. The 8200s processor is better than what ive got in my desktop.

 

If we can get the 8300 for a good price i would go for it but the 8200 would be good to.
