Blank Screen After Windows XP Loading Screen

Hi All,

 

sorry if this might be the wrong forums to post this in but i know somehow this is hardware related rather than software related, my machine that i use at home which i have used for over 6 months, on and off some days after booting through windows and just before it comes up with the Welcome screen it just displays a blank screen and then nothing else, no hard drive activity what so ever. It only does this around 50% of the time and my dad first had my computer but he used to say he had this problem from around 3 months after he got it brand new but he could never solve what was wrong with it. The computer is just over a year old now, it either does this what iv just explaned or it will also just stay on the windows boot screen loading continuelesly for a while sometimes it will load into windows after a while or it will just restart the computer. I thought it might of been a hard drive issue bit it turned out i was wrong as i recently did a fresh install with my 250GB hard drive. I have a good feeling its likely to be my motherboard which is listed with my whole system info in my signature. Iv got all the latest updates for all hardware and software of my comp etc, So any other surgestions guys?

Nope its a Gigabyte K8N-Pro SLI.

We have something similar with some Asrock ones, it was a dodgy driver in the end.

 

Have you tried an older driver also is the BIOS up to date?

Yep my BIOS is up to date, i havent managed to use the drivers off the original motherboard CD as i havent got it but the drivers used are the ones off the Gigabyte website.

Hmm.. this sounds like a problem that my mate was having a while back now. it was still in warrenty and he sent it back it was a sony computer. but was a Gigabyte motherboard. he had a new one and touch wood he has not had the same issue.

 

I read somewhere when i was looking for a fix for this problem that it was a board problem apparently alot of the gigabyte boards were having the same problem. also i have seen this and it has just been a somple graphic's card swap..

 

Don't quote me on it until i get the source to back up what i said (if i can find it its been a while back now)

Yep had this too due to a dodgy graphics driver. Also had it due to a dying graphics card.

Why don't you try another OS that loads from CD. That way you can see if its hardware or software related. If its hardware, you'd imagine you'd have the same problem.

 

You can use Ubuntu 7.10 to do this task. Download it on a CD and burn the iso. Then boot from the CD. it will not install anything, and it might be another way of trying to solve the problem, (To install the OS, you will see an option on the desktop when it appears on screen. You hould be able to use it to browse the internet etc....

 

Just a suggestion.
