Cant Open any Office files when not on Wifi

As per title, once Wifi is off I cant open any Office files from anywhere, including memory sticks.

 

Gives an error about antivirus, but only windows defender is currently installed.

 

Memory stick works fine everywhere else.

You got smartscreen filter turned on? That goes off to check all files etc

No, smartscreen is turned off.

 

I can open every other file, just nothing from office, weird!

can you screenshot the error?

have you tried opening in safe mode?

Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the name of the Microsoft Office program that you want to run. and then opening the file?

Silly question, if you open the file properties is there the unblock option? As in right-click properties.

 

(There was an issue if you have the firewall service disabled that you can't open files from another zone without trusting them)

I've had this before and don't think I ever got to the bottom of it. It might have been something to do with offline files.

When word loads it says cant open the existing fie (normal)

 

Powerpoint says its antivirus stopping it from opening.

That may well have been it... with roaming profiles going bad.

does it work ok if you log in as a local/different user?

@CHR1S Its got to be looking for that on a network drive. Try logging on as admin and see if you get the same.

Works fine from the local admin account offline, will reset the profile and see what happens

Its coming back to me.....

 

I think it was deleting the local copy of the profile and logging on to re-create.

Fresh profile and its still happening.

Ive disabled offline files, checked and re-checked redirection etc and its still dong it

Using Roaming Profiles? I seem to remember it was something to do with that or it might have been folder redirection. There's a setting in Office in the options where you stipulate where the data files and templates live. Have a check of that.

I have changed every setting to every possible permutation of local/network combination and nothing works.

My laptop which has the same image and configuration works perfectly.

Thanks all, for the sake of my sanity I just removed the laptop from the domain and mapped the users drives and its working fine on and off wifi.

 

Will spend some time looking into it if I ever do get some.

you need to have offline files enabled otherwise office throws wobbly. enable offline files and logon wait for 10 minutes while it starts to sync and you should be fine. I have had to do this for staff that take there laptops home. We don't have roaming profiles.

Offline files was on and had been for several weeks prior to the issue happening. The only instance where it worked correctly was with local accounts.

Are there any issues showing in the sync center? I would be tempted to clear out out the cache and let a re-sync take place. I have had issues with folder redirection failing where the offline files cache becomes corrupt.

I removed it from the domain and re-added, turned off offline files and formatted the CSC, re-mapped the home drive to the DFS and directly to a server share, made the user a domain admin, changed the locations of the temp and normal files.

 

Again, only local users could function off network.
