cpjitservices Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Hi All, Wondered if anyone could recommend me a 'Power only' Hard Drive Enclosure. Or something of that ilk, basically i Have some Dell Rack Servers. Ive used all the drive bays so I have got one of the external SATA Leads that plugs into the RAID card (Splits into 4 or 6 Sata Cables.) at the back, this only provides for Sata connectivity though. So I'd like to know how to Power the drives or whether there is some sort of Enclosure I could use the cable with. Thanks all in advance!

It's easy with an ATX PSU using something like Add2PSU Daisy Chain Power Supply Adapter Review - Legit ReviewsRunning Multiple Power Supplies in One PC, but with a server you're going to need a second PSU, then bridge the ground and green (power switch) cables so that the second PSU knows to fire up with the first. You may be able to use a standard ATX 20+4 pin molex adaptor for this on the server motherboard, but it'll likely not be. Otherwise, you're looking at hacking a USB enclosure so that it takes SATA instead. If you get an eSATA enclosure this should be easier.
