Hi guys,

I though I would try out classroombookings on my web space before trying to install it on a NAS box at school.

I have read the documentation provided and my 1 & 1 hosting package covers all of the requirements. I have also used Google and posts on this forum to look for solutions.

This is what I have done so far. I have used xxx to keep my details secret!

1) I made a classroombookings sub directory on server.

2) Unzipped all files into folder on server.

3) Created a new MySQL database on server using phpMyAdmin.

4) Imported classroombookings.sql file provided. I can now see all of the tables

5) Renamed config.php file and edited only one line:

$config['base_url'] = 'http://www.mydomainname/classroombookings/';

6) Renamed database.php and edited it like so:

$db['default']['hostname'] = 'db58XXX6021.db.1and1.com'; // was localhost

$db['default']['username'] = 'dbo58XXX6021'; // was root

$db['default']['password'] = 'mypassword'; // default is blank

$db['default']['database'] = 'db58XXX6021'; // was crbs1

$db['default']['dbdriver'] = 'mysql'; // was mysqli

Finally, I have tried to view the classroombookings with my web browser pointed at http://www.mydomainname.co.uk/classroombookings/

I have epically failed and need your help!

Cheers Wil

What are the errors your seeing exactly here? I've not used 1 and 1 in a number of years so I'm not sure how their MySQL database setup is but if your using phpmyadmin you will need to ensure the user your using has the correct permission over the database or it will fail to connect correctly (if that is the issue). If you can provide more details then I can advise further or alternatively feel free to PM the URL etc and I can take a look.

Hi Wil, developer of Classroombookings here! Thanks for trying it out.

You say you have imported the .sql file into the database - you don't need to do this :) The install process will do this for you, as well as setting up the school details and adding a user account.

If you empty the database, and start the install process, it should go smooth from then (full instructions on website). But as Chris has mentioned, if you receive any error messages please include those with any follow-up posts and it'll help to resolve any more problems :)

hi @webman

Stupid question time, are there any plans for an import functionality from a SIMS report? Not issue if there is not, not going to kick up a fuss, would just be a nice feature.

Hi Craig,

I do believe I import the .sql file after the installation didn't work, as per instructions, which I have read many times!

I now have an empty database (Dropped all the tables) with the same result.

Hardest (easy to install) software I have ever come across. Future support, could be some cool Youtube videos showing the configuration and installation on a test server and not just a localhost. :)

If I can't resolve this soon I have seen some other free class room booking software to try. Just my boss, saw this one running at his old school.

Regards,

Wil

I would of thought there was a section for future requests and not leeching on to any given random post. Forum etiquette! ;)

Sorry, the whole thing interests me. Plus seeing what you are getting with the SQL db. So I thought it would allow me to follow it as well.

Hi Wil

OK, I'm not sure what else to suggest then, without knowing what was displayed, or what did or didn't happen exactly when you tried installing/viewing it. One thing that might help is to turn on logging in config.php (change the value of log_threshold to 4) , try installing again, and then look for errors in the generated log file (should be in system/logs/ or system/application/logs). Any screenshots or copies of error messages might help point me in the right direction :)

Sorry you've found it hard to install. Unfortunately the software is quite old now, and supporting the unlimited system configurations and environments is always a challenge - there is only so much one person can do in their free time :) There is another version being worked on, which will improve everything (including the installer), but it is just not ready yet.

@BKGarry: Not right now, but I would love to add this. When the time is right I'll be looking for interested schools to work with to help get this added :)

Thanks webman,

I will try a fresh install with debugging on at the weekend and let you know how I get on.

@BKGarry: no probs. Have you got this system installed successfully?

Cheers

Wil :)

I am afraid I haven't yet. I am currently doing a hyperV deployment once that is done, then I can install a LAMP server for this and fiddle from there.
