Salary: £22,000 to £28,000 per Annum subject to experience

Senior IT Technician – The Role:

 

We have a vacancy for a highly-motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive Senior ICT Technician to support and manage our school network. It’s an exciting chance for a Senior technician to grow into and become a Network Manager. You will be responsible for providing server, desktop and network support to students and staff on a daily basis. Experience of Server 2012/2008, W7, Active Directory, wireless networking and IT infrastructure is essential. Experience of Hyper V, Antivirus and DPM Backup solutions would be an advantage.

 

Candidates must have the ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment, troubleshoot problems and resolve issues effectively and efficiently in a timely manner. You will be accountable for the provision of ICT support services for the Academy’s ICT network, software, hardware, infrastructure and stand-alone equipment. This is a full time post; most large projects and upgrades are completed during the academic holidays which are often the busiest times.

 

Duties and Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the network infrastructure to meet the School's requirements, including expanding it;

• Provide in-school ICT support; perform advanced troubleshooting on PCs, peripherals and applications. Advise on compatibility of hardware, applications and operating systems, according to user requirements;

• Manage the school’s Management Information Systems, primarily SIMS and any other related school systems such as FMS;

• Manage the school’s telephony systems;

• Oversee the school’s printing solutions;

• Ensure all current and planned web-based technologies remain fully operational;

• Manage the functioning and deployment of applications;

• Manage the school’s security and back-up systems and plan disaster recovery contingencies to enable an efficient return of service after any unforeseen system outages;

• Maintain the school’s Anti-Virus system;

• Manage Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory and any other relevant network services;

• Manage Internet access filtering, email filtering and related monitoring systems;

• To be responsible for maintaining the School’s ICT Asset Register;

• Manage the school’s internet connectivity;

• Upgrade relevant systems during agreed maintenance windows, in agreement with the Principal, to ensure minimum downtime for staff during critical periods;

• Support the everyday use of ICT for teaching and learning, administration and management;

• Support e-safety within the school.

 

Experience (Desirable)

• Possession of appropriate ICT qualifications or equivalent experience;

• 3 Years’ Experience of carrying out a similar role in secondary education sector;

• Demonstrable experience of continued learning and self-development;

 

Skills and knowledge (Essential)

• Good standard of literacy and numeracy;

• Good knowledge of ICT technologies, both hardware and software (e.g. Office 365 / LAN / WAN / Wifi / Antivirus / Security solutions);

• Excellent practical technical skills;

• Excellent communication skills;

• Good knowledge of the use of ICT in the classroom to support teaching and learning;

• Awareness of confidentiality and data protection requirements;

• Safeguarding issues;

• An appreciation of the ICT related requirements in an education environment;

• Ability to think creatively and solve basic problems.
