A teacher has some Smart notebook files that she used to be able to use but now she gets an error message which just says "unable to open..." and they fail. They came from her old school and so I am not sure what version they are. However, another teacher has the same issue.

They both have the same laptop - a Fujitsu A544 with SMART 11.4 on (or whatever the highest one is that doesn't need a new licence)

The first teacher told me she couldn't open the files on another laptop but I tried this morning and they worked fine on a 11.2 installation.

I tried to sort it out by opening the files and saving them with a different name but she still can't open them on her laptop.

I have removed - with the SMART uninstaller - all the software on her laptop and reinstalled it twice now to no avail.

Can anyone give me any pointers on what on earth is wrong?

(we have several other Fujitsus with the same image which seem to be fine)

Nobody can open these files, it seems

I have moved a couple of the SMART files to a shared location and can access it from another computer. I can access the files on her computer but only using a different user.

I have reset her profile and wiped her profile off her laptop.

Any other suggestions

I've already done that, sadly - twice now.

I think it is user related but I can't see what else I can do other than create a new user and move her docs into it

To confirm:- login with problem user on Fujitsu A544 with SMART 11.4 and it fails, then

login with another user on same Fujitsu A544 with SMART 11.4 and it works ?

thats would lead me to look at the difference in users,

could it be some sort of permissions issue?

could it be a filtering issue?

Yes, I am starting to lean towards a user issue as things seem to have changed a bit. But I have deleted the user profile from the server and the laptop and she still can't open the docs.

I think I am going to have to create a new user for her and copy everything across
