Problem migrating to a new server

I've been following the instructions on KB112462 on how to transfer SIMS from one server to another.

 

Built new Windows Server 2012 standard with SQL Server 2012 enterprise. CAPITA supplied SIMS 2013 Summer 2 Installable and SIMS 2015 Spring updates. Which I installed but when it comes to attatching a copy of our SIMS database I get the following error:

 

 

 

SIMS Database Managment Utility (v 1.40.24.0)

 

Unhandled exception has occured in your application............

 

Object reference not set to an instance of an object

 

Anyone seen this and point me where i've gone wrong?

Just to double check - are you using Server 2012 or Server 2012 R2? Don't build on the former, you'll be contending with the inferior product otherwise.

 

That error message is a very generic .NET error, and isn't particularly informative of the issue. Make sure that the new SIMS setup has had its DB detached ready for you to attach your working copy. Make sure that you have sufficient credentials in SQL Server Management Studio to actually manage the DB.
