We have moved over to the Silverlight MLS everything is working OK apart from the fingerprint scanner.

The error I am seeing is hardware plugin unavailable on the status bar when you load the mls.net home page.

Windows 7 64bit, IE 11 I have ran the debug application for testing the scanner and it is working OK, the DAT file from the old SQL backup is in the right location.

I have looked at the Active X Settings, added the sites needed to the trusted sites.

Anyone seen this before?

Cheers

MLS, the new system and the finger print scanner was a nightmare for us but... managed to get it working however im next at in on friday, i can dig out the notes then for you. I think we have to open Identikit in a new window rather than a new tab and for the BHO to run via GP. I remember spending hours on this problem.

Edit: the notes are in my emails i sent this through to MLS after finding and sorting the problem...

I had originally said that the identify box which allows us to assign fingerprints to borrowers was greyed out. Well after trying all sorts we have managed to find out what the problem was.

When the 27.7mb ieplugin installs on machines, obviously it creates all the little addons for the identikit hardware. Well, it creates the IE addon MLS Scripting engine - this has to be enabled for the identity part not to be greyed out and this is what was causing all the problems for us. Eventually we found that the addon wasn't enabled for our users who cannot access the windows features to enable/disable the features.

It may be worth updating the support docs to mention that this addon needs to be enabled for IdentiKit to work correctly. If users are unable to access the Manage addons feature in IE due to Group Policy restrictions, they need to create or edit a Group Policy Object so that:

Computer Policy > Policies > Administrative templates > Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Security Features/Add-on Management.

In the addon list this string needs to be added:

{0CD00297-9A19-4698-AEF1-682FBE9FE88D}

Ok, here is how I managed to get the fingerprint thingy working:

Install the fingerprint drivers (we have the DigitalPersona UareU fingerprint scanners so we make sure the blue standby light is lit up)

Install the IE plugin for Identikit (MLS Hardware Support IE Plugin.exe)

Restart the Machine

Check manage addons in IE - MLS.scriptEngine is set to Disabled -> Change it so it is enabled

Close IE and then Reopen

Browse to Eclipse and login with your librarian/admin account

Login to circulate

Select a user you have setup so you can test the fingerprints

Click Identification -> this shouldn't be greyed out.

Well I have got this working now,

I had to make a new GPO something in the staff IE Settings GPO was killing it, was really pleased with getting it going until I found out when a user scans it pulls up multiple users that has the same fingerprint but works OK when I tested it with a new account going onto the system.

To me looks like it is a problem with the DAT file? I will give MLS a call this week ... starting to hate MLS more than SIMS and FMS or even capita :(

Will update the post when I have more information
