SIMSSQLApplicationsSetup.exe - Unable to install due to 'lack of space'

Hi,

We are trying to migrate to SQL2012. The school is fully SOLUS3 but the migration tool is running a SIMSApplicationSetup.exe to install the SQL components but the installer is failing causing the reconfigure of the database on the SQL2012 instance to fail and roll back. I've pinpointed the issue to this installer, and running it manually results in this error:

2015-05-26 09_27_06-SQL4259 - 535 - Huish Episcopi - 4259 - CS.jpg

The SIMS data drive is 3.5TB in size and only 110GB is used on it so there really is masses of space. We've not heared of this issue at any other school but no other schools have drives this size so not sure it it's the root cause?

Any advice welcome.

What? It wants a TB free? Something wrong there. Maybe it's not fully recognising the size of the drive. How the heck have you got a 3.5TB drive anyway? That's overkill. We had an issue on our VMs with partitions larger than 2TB.

Can you try to run that .exe as a test on your PC or on a test partition to see if it will work on a smaller drive.

Hi,

It does seem to work on a smaller drive. Guess I'll have to log a call with Capita then, I guess as there are a large number of DLL files in the installer, I can't just 'install' them to another drive and then manually move them accross into the Binn directory.

What happens if you click ignore?

It immedietely flicks to the 'complete' screen but no files are actually installed.

If you haven't yet might want to just try a reboot, had this before and it cleared it. Random Capita logic I tell you :p (Worth a shot)

I'm getting the exact same issue, logged a call... shall we see who gets a solution first!!!

Out of curosity, how large is your data drive for SIMS?

Sweepstake time:

I bet they've used a 16 bit integer to store the 'free space' value when they check the disk. You can get weird results when the MSB is set with signed binary values.

For info, the drive has been shrank to less than 2GB and the installer now works so it was a drive sizing issue. Capita have also said it is a know issue and something they are looking at for future SIMS releases.
