No sound on hd channels

We just brought a new Samsung series 6 led smart tv.

 

Plugged it all in. We got sound on the non hd channels but no sound on hd

 

Any ideas? I've done the normal stuff

 

Worked fine on my old LG lcd tv.

Hope not. I'm just hope it's a setting.

 

I got sky box plugged in via hdmi to input 2.

 

And surround is plugged in via optical.

Sky hd works fine when I drop hdmi sound to normal. (From dolby d)

there a setting on the sky box I think or there one on the tv as well

I had something very similar on my new Samsung Smart TV, I needed to change the audio settings on my FreeSat box from 5.1 to stereo which forced the HD channels to play 2.0. Never got the 5.1 working in the end Edited May 27, 2015 by BassTech

Samsung Smart TV (mine anyway)

 

The TV doesn't pass though digital sound the surround sound. (if you use Freeview or any apps on the TV if works) but no external device works with digital sound... you get stereo.

 

i can get sound from the skybox to my surround sound via coax or optical but my blu-ray player only got hdmi out.....

 

I think i will be taking this tv back and buying a different brand.. (my 8/9 year old LG LCD worked fine... )

 

 

Also samsung support are ****. I got cut off 3 times by a snotty *****.
