Recommend a Suitable NUC PC for ICT suites

Hi

We have big challenges in the ICT suites, the students pulling our the LAN cable, breaking the LAN cable Lock and vandalising the PC front covers.

 

Iam thinking about replacing with a NUC mini PC that can be located below their desk and locked with a custom made cage.

Firstly suggest me some NUC PC that are good and with a VGA port as our monitors are old they are VGA monitors.

Secondly Please let me know if these PC can be made boot from any power management software, so that i can give the control of switching on the PCs by a teacher \administrator.

Don't know about NUC's. Only used the Intel ones here for admin and they only have HDMI as far as I can tell. However, we had similar issues here with ICT suites (who doesn't). @VeryPC do a great range of 'Flex' SFF machines with the I/O ports under a screw locked faceplate. Incidences in that suit have dropped away completely - but then the suite is 'owned' by an ICT Teacher who looks after it.

 

In a non-Teacher lead room (free for all, lit.) we put some Stone All-in-One units, again I think VeryPC do a range. Still some minor cable swapping going on but a side from that they've proven to be the best form factor all round, and they look stunning.

what about all in one pcs there are then less cables they can swap just kb mouse(and as usb dosent really matter where its plugged in) power and data

You'll need an adapter to use VGA (probably minidisplayport to vga)

We have i3, 8gb ram, 128gb disk, no wifi ones in two suites here. Not had any issues at all.

Hi @genesis, thanks for posting. Security cages for NUCs are around the £29.99 mark but they won't prevent users pulling cables out - they just deter people from trying to nick them off the back of the monitor or whatever they're screwed onto. I like @tmcd35s suggestion of the VeryPC Flex. been looking at NUC's myself, i dont think i have seen a nuc with a VGA port however

That's a good thing! VGA ports are horrible.

 

The only NUC with a VGA port is the low-end Atom model.

I think the i3 onwards only have Mini HDMI and DP. And low end have VGA.

 

We got the Intel NUC (I3 4gb and 120SSD) and works very well. (we havent really put any load on these but should cope with everything you throw at it. )

Can verify that the VeryPC Flex is great for this. We kitted out one of our more remote rooms with Flexs and they have neither batted an eyelid for reliability or received any vandalism. It's not a well looked after room typically, and we do see a lot of pushed in faceplates etc in the rooms that are permanent homes to staff, so for us confirms they do the job very well. And as you can hide a lot of the cabling under the rear guard they don't look messy either.
