CloudRuckus - Has Anyone Deployed Using This ?

Hi All

 

I am currently investigating various Vendors for deployment at a group of schools that I manage networks for and due to needing centralised control, I am opting for a Cloud solution.

 

I had been looking at Aerohive and Meraki but then stumbled across CloudRuckus.

 

I am a massive Ruckus Wireless fan and have worked with ZoneDirectors in the past (starting with the 1000 series and most recently the 3000 series) but have never deployed using their Cloud option.

 

I contacted them through the site and have been put in touch with a Ruckus distributor (I'm assuming I can't mention names on here) who arranged a Demo and its all gone well so far with the solution seeming very slick and the CloudRuckus Helpdesk seem very helpful (but then of course they just want to sell me their product so at this point I would expect them to be helpful)

 

As always though with anything I've not tried before I am always cautious so thought I would see if anyone here has had any experience with this?

Tempted to give the solution a try... Ruckus Wireless with Cloud.. sounds like an Admins dream lol

Unifi can be run with a controller in the cloud (although this doesnt need to be on for normal operation necessarily anyway in some setups) a lot more bang for your buck and no ongoing costs (subject to hosting.)

UniFi is ridiculously cheap, I thought though that the UniFi software was more of a management tool, rather than a controller that helped the APs make intelligent decisions?

Yup, that is exactly the case. There is no automatic power adjustment, for example. The controller is more of a centralised configuration and logging tool, rather than it controlling anything on the fly.

Interested to hear about this. I am looking to refresh my Ruckus soon if money appears and want to look at cloud Ruckus. My local wireless goto are not to sure as they have not dealt with it but I am very much one of those "if it works in the cloud, it moves to the cloud" people. One less box to go fuzz and ruin my day in my opinion.

We also offer a cloud based Ruckus solution. It does make things easier as it will automatically update the firmwares etc for you, as the user you can pretty much plug it in, power it up and let it do its thing.

 

Being Ruckus driven you also get to take advantage of their adaptive wireless meshing, guest networking functionality, rich and real time statistics and advanced reporting and so on.
