Uh oh - mains dip!

Just had a mains dip at home!

 

I hope the servers in both schools nearby don't throw wobblies

Personal experience of a school with dodgy power tells me its the switches you need to worry about :S

Funny that, we had a big power whoopsie in our street last weekend.

Switches and servers down, UPS didn't last 20 minutes..

~6k of equipment fried..

I always wait for the power to go when i use wake on lan.

 

About 70 machines all turn on at the same time (Rest are laptops or dont have it enabled).

 

Could do it in bits but wheres the fun in that.

 

Apparently our main board is near its maximum and died a few year ago. They didn't think to put a higher rated one in.

 

If it does go then ive got about an hour to get to the server room, enough time for a cuppa.

 

Only downside is it would be me that would have to sort as ive seem to taken the role of caretaker since hes off. Meeting with the electrician tonight about lights in the school.

Turns out it took out my Friday afternoon school network but nobody contacted me until I turned up at lunchtime today

 

And the 1st person that spoke to me said that their laptop couldn't connect to the internet.

 

I spent 5 mins looking at it before deciding that maybe something bigger was amiss and told them I was off to look around

 

At that point, they told me nobody else's internet was working

 

You can't make this stuff up
