Hi,

Traditionally each kid has gone home with a school report in an envelope, with about 10 bits of paper. We're looking to attaching/uploading the word file of each kids report into sims as our VLE has an export and can share those files online so parents can log in and see.

I never use SIMS so am just trying to work out the workload - is it easy / possible to upload a file to each kids profile as a letter?\

The VLE add on has a SIMS Extractor and says it will pull out "linked documents" I think.

Any help much appreciated!!!!

Cheers,

It's easy to upload the documents to the students SIMS profile in the linked documents but I don't think it can be an automated process and will be a case of someone going to each student browsing for the file and uploading.

I would over estimate at around 3 - 5 minutes per student per report.

Hi Sylv3r,

Thanks that's really helpful, I assume SIMS lets you upload PDF files? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't but just checking every detail so it doesn't all backfire.

Where is your report created. If you create it in SIMS, using Profiles or Assessment Manager you can auto upload the docs into Linked Documents, then the extractor can pull them out and send them. That will save a lot of hassle.

We had reports that were manually uploaded but it's a chore and very prone to error, not to mention the hassle of having to name the files, and fill in boxes before you can save. The process is not user friendly.

If your reports are coming from elsewhere there are some printers (plus add-ons) that are able to scan and upload into SIMS, i think some software, try RecordLinkWriter can also upload to SIMS easily or at least easier via Word / outlook.
