Hope someone has come across this!

iOS updating 16 iPad minis using Apple Configurator, 14 updated ok, 2 seemed to have updated but with errors.

Go to carry out a restore from back-up on the 2 with errors and message says wrong apple ID, this device was set-up using Apple ID 4….qq.com & ID 5….qq.com respectively (No it wasn’t!!)

So to Google and other people have had the same problem when updating iOS, when contacting Apple they say it’s stolen and not their problem!

Other people are saying that pirated software has been downloaded and it’s your own fault!

Tried a number of fixes to no avail, so any help/suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Paul

Will the two ipads roll back to recovery mode and allow you to restore from Itunes? We've had issues with configurator not activating after an update but could restore to factory and redo afterwards...

Hi DocHouse, yep that is one of the things I have tried, will let me restore but still comes up with the wrong Apple ID!

Where did you download the IPSW from?

Not sure, just done from Apple Configurator on the school MacBook Pro, via the schools ISP

Apple configurator downloads the latest IOS and erases the iPad to allow us to restore via iTunes. There hasn't been an IPSW imported into Apple configurator as a base image.

Just an update on this, logged a call with Apple support and spoke to 'Dave' in California, after well over 30 minutes on the phone with him continuing to suggest that the only way this could have happened was for someone to have physical had the device in their hands and changed the Apple ID and me continually pointing out that the Internet is awash with the same issue he said I will have to get back to you!

When he does I will update this thread so if it happens to other people they will know what to do ..... or otherwise!

How and why are you speaking to Apple in California? There is a UK (Ireland) based call centre. To download ISPW files go to Download Firmware (IPSW) Files for iOS Devices

Because when I requested a call back from the UK (Ireland) call centre (so not costing me anything in phone calls) I spoke to a very nice lady who then passed me on to Tech Support, that turned out to be in California!

Hello! Anyone have an answer about this issue? I have de same problem now:( with 5*****@qq.com

This unfortunately is down to the legacy background of brute force attacks on iCloud, which Apple has fixed however what has happened here is that..

Someone has hacked an Apple ID that at some time was used for iCloud on this iPad, the iPad itself hasn't been hacked it's the iCloud account, hence it's asking for these credentials when you restore the iPad. Check the iCloud account if you use this to track your iPads

URGENTLY check the school VPP account, and

The school iCloud account if that is being used

I think the only solution is to speak to Apple with your proof of purchase, more detailed explanation below..

EDIT..

Once you sign into your account ensure you have turned on 2 STEP VERIFICATION
