Chrome book Question

Hi

 

I am looking strolling out 30 chrome books

 

My question is how you deal with students existing word/excel files saved on the network

 

Do you just say they don't have access to these and just start creating documents using google Docs and saving them in their drive account? Or suggest something else?

All of our students and staff have Office 365. For files saved in their home dirs, they copy them to cloud and back again. They manage this just fine.

About half our subjects have direct access to Chromebooks so they tend to work from them when in those subjects and in office files during other lessons. They are encouraged to upload their work to the google drive and edit it from there though.

We don't offer any other way of getting your files other than google (by design to increase use).

We encourage the use of Google docs but we do offer access to their network docs if required using Pydio which works really well.
