Trapper Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hackers make UK-wide website exposure threat after John Taylor High School incident | Burton Mail
fiza Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 What is The Vault system they mention in the article?
Haptic Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 it's an interesting article, we had a demo recently from a security solution provider. Very simple web portal, all we did was type in some website suffixes ( including some well known businesses, building societies and schools) what we were then presented with was a list of all the entries that exist on the dark web. Some merely had email address and password information, others had full credit card details, postal addresses and even passport information. All for grabs at a modest price. We've been looking at offering a monitoring service to alert schools etc when details like this appear, the sources appear to be staff emails being used for online purchases before the info is leaked. Scary stuff. Joe
JRowley Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 What is The Vault system they mention in the article? Here is the page - thevault.jths.co.uk It seems to be a FROG powered portal, probably gives access to internal resources, pupil data that sort of thing.
Steve21 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Ok ok I'll be the first to say it... "We are working with FROG and RM, our network providers" there's the problem! haha (I jest before anyone gets upset) Steve
CAM Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Any idea what they did to get in? Members giving a quick review of their security can't be a bad idea.
Steve21 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 If you read the "non leet version" Malicious cyber attack on John Taylor High School's network and website | Burton Mail sounds like no-one knows yet as still investigating. Steve
JRowley Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Any idea what they did to get in? Members giving a quick review of their security can't be a bad idea. Could be anything at this point, best to see if FROG/RM come back with anything remotely useful.
halbaradkenafin Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Any idea what they did to get in? Members giving a quick review of their security can't be a bad idea. Probably the usual thing of poor password security being the biggest weakness.
Arreks Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Probably the usual thing of poor password security being the biggest weakness. Yup, most likely a brute-force or dictionary attack on the login page. Most of these 'stunts' are generally simple attacks or DDoS kiddies being let loose.
PotNoodleTech Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Lets be honest, calling it the vault and theming it around a massive un-crackable bank vault may have been a mistake.
