Web Filtering/Firewall Suggestions

Hiya,

 

We're looking at replacing our Meraki MX-90 and looking at other products that are cheaper and aimed more towards education.

I was wondering if anyone has heard/used WatchGuard XTM or would recommend a product over another.

 

I think we're looking towards the £3500 install and setup costs with on going costs to be far cheaper.

 

Any suggestions?

For firewalls I'm just sticking in pfSense boxes. You can buy bespoke pre-installed machines, support and training off the store if you are not comfortable with DIY.

I have a websense filter here, I'm not amazingly impressed with it. I would prefer a smoothwall box myself.

+1 fr PfSense I have my web filtering setup on pfsense, using squid and squidguard.

Out of interest why are you looking to replace your MX-90? Is it not up to the job or costing too much in licence fees?

We've got Barracuda Web Filters (US company..) - I am not familiar with smoothwall or any UK companies. Good luck!

 

We've had good success with Barracuda. They're pretty inexpensive as well.

You need to look at what your requirements are and take a look at the technology available and evaluate them against your needs.

Gaz, it's just too much in licensing. this would save us much move over a 6 year term.
