Gaz Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but I am looking to enable remote access of sorts for staff to access work from home they don't have domain joined devices only their own, so do I want to use Direct Access which I believe works with domain joined devices or would RDP work? Its the first time I've set something like this up, so I want to do it correctly. I use RDP to manage all the servers which is nice and easy and I was hoping for the same sort of method for staff.

We have a farm of 8 servers which both staff and students can RDP into from home. Works great and is very heavily utilized. Direct Access is a nice solution, but RDP is just easier to setup and maintain IMO. Mike 1
Gaz Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 OK I'll have a look into terminal services. There wont be many users using it so I don't want to dedicate too much time to it so RDP with terminal services sounds like the way to go.
Oaktech Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Both... Pupil take homes are on direct access so we can enforce in school standards. We also have a few staff who have windows 8.1 devices and prefer to use direct access. We also have a 2012r2 RDP server with the medhurst dashboard installed on it so depending on which url they connect on they can choose whether they use real RDP or the halfway house between direct access and RDP medhurst solution.

Oaktech Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Yeah... I just start> run> mstsc> show info> enter all the info and save it to your desktop and then copy it to whoever's stick. you can even go so far as to prepopulate their domain\username.
