Prometheus_3 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Hello, I have been asked to research an alternative to our existing proxy and internet filtering software. We are currently using two proxies. The first is a dedicated proxy server running Apache, Squid and Diladele. The second is our pfSense firewall with squid. The first is for student notebooks and workstations and requires users to authenticate. The second is a transparent proxy for our staff. The existing setup has bad reporting and is constantly causing me grief. Just before I walk into work in the morning it must be asking itself "How can I torture the IT guy today?" I didnt create this setup, however I have to deal with this issues it causes every day. I want to just bash it with a sledge hammer, set it on fire, walk away and hope my problems are incinerated with it. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cost effective internet filter/proxy setup that has flexible policies, good reporting and plays nice with BYOD devices? Kind Regards, Luke
free780 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Sounds like you need something paid for and with support. Smoothwall or Bloxx are probably the way forward. However it all comes down to money.
Oaktech Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) I'd look carefully at the market place... Offerings like iBoss are gaining popularity and are cost effective. There's another mahoosive thread on this elsewhere on here that will be of interest to you.
