bert113 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Hi, We've just been quoted 3K for our yearly Moodle support contract and I wondered if that was an average price for this service. Also we've also been advisedd that another platform is good and a reasonable price :- "its learning" - does anyone have any experience of this within the secondary sector. Any comments, recommendations or advice welcome. Thanks in advance
wiseoldowl Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I guess, as always, it comes back to the question, "What do your users want?" unless, of course, you're solely driven by price and not teaching and learning. I have no experience of the It's Learning platform but would it suit your users? Whether or not something is good will depend on what your users think. Also, consider the costs of change if you move away from one solution to another - things like training, getting people back up to speed, speed of adoption, technical skills required, technical training required, administration costs in terms of time and money, etc. Hope this helps - much to think about perhaps. 1
dhicks Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 We've just been quoted 3K for our yearly Moodle support contract and I wondered if that was an average price for this service. For a reasonable-sized secondary school, that sounds about right - do they host Moodle for you or administer a local server for you? 1
localzuk Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 It really depends what you want from the support. I'm in the middle of rolling out Moodle here and we won't be buying into a support contract - we feel we don't need it! 1
ForgotMyPassword Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I'm just up the road from you and have a lot of experience with VLEs (and used to work for one!) - if you wanted me to pop in for a chat, you'd be more than welcome? Happy to give you some advice based on my experiences from a T&L perspective? DM me if so... Cheers, James
bert113 Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Thanks David, they administer a local server
synaesthesia Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 That's not *too* bad, we're paying somewhat less than that via OvernetData who have been frankly awesome and we can't recommend them enough. Worth a chat to them. They are looking after a local server for us, migrated our original Moodle install up to a newer version, themed it for us and now fully manage it. 1
dhicks Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Thanks David, they administer a local server Therefore they don't have any hosting costs - you provide hardware and bandwidth, so their charge is covering their work. At, say, £150 a day that's 20 days work, just for comparison.
ass17 Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 We pay around 10,000 a year for firefly, self hosted, parent portal, mobile device apps, support etc...
