Wii U USB Storage - What are you using?

Well, our 8GB Wii U (3GB effectively usable) is, after a few patches and an update, now beginning to run out of space and after a quick read around I'm down to a few options:

 

 

 

1. Follow Nintendo's recommended route and buy a hard drive (or enclosure) with a seperate power supply and have an extra plug taken up
   
2. Buy a USB 3 USB flash drive like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDCZ43-064G-G46-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B00LLEODCK/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1429386018&sr=1-4&keywords=usb+3+memory+stick but potentially suffer buffering issues and be scared about Nintendo's warnings of data corruption and file loss over time
   
3. Buy a USB enlosure with either a 'Y' USB cable or USB 3 combo cable and whack one of my many old 2.5" HDD's in there
   

 

I have to adit that it's another sign of the awful planning that Nintendo did with the Wii U that the base model is so pitiful that you have to expand it yourself. The games (what few there are) are great, but the more we use it the more we see the glaring flaws in the development process of the console. Most patches we have had for games (and when you use a game for the first time it will download a patch!) are almost a Gb in size!

Anyway, what (if any) external storage are you using, and how are you getting along with it?

Currently using a 500GB Toshiba PX1626E-1HE0 with a Y cable. Works fine and still have over 400gb left on the drive.

An old WD Passport with a Y cable here. The console is low usage though and load times are rather bad!
