Hi

I currently have an obsolete Ruckus Wireless Network - Zone Director 1000 and 11 x ZF2942.

As a primary school we do not have the budget to simply upgrade the entire wireless network so I am having to do it piecemeal style.

So, I approached a Ruckus dealer (no names) and I told them exactly what was required and that we could not afford to replace the AP's straightaway. They consulted Ruckus and came back with a solution, namely:

Zone Director 1100 and R500 AP's.

Well it now transpires that the R500 is not compatible and has been swapped out for a 7372.

However, in order for me to migrate the settings of the Zone Director 1000 I have to match its firmware on the new Zone Director 1100. However, the Zone Director 1100 will not accept any firmware lower than 9.7. I have tried three times to no avail - the zone director simply sits there saying "Upgrading 0%" with the status light flashing red. I have even left it overnight and it still does not work.

I have gone back to the supplier and they are scratching their heads!

Can anyone provide any thoughts on this as I am rapidly losing faith with the supplier and their "sales technique / technical knowledge" and I am concerned that Ruckus have not really done due diligence with this project either...

Thanks in advance.

Hello Aqua,

I'm not sure why the reseller had claimed that the R500's were not compatible with the ZD1100 as they are very much compatible.

However with that said lets take a look at the config backup / import to the new ZD1100 model.

The ZD1100 does support a lower version of code that such as the latest the 1000 can support (9.4).

I have been made aware of some bugs when downgrading the ZD1100 and not using a particalar downgrade code pattern.

Can you please let me know here or via DM which version of code is currently on the ZD1100 so i can suggest the best downgrade path and methods for the ZD1100.

The alternative it take the back up the ZD1000 anyway... send it over to me and i will bring one of our lab boxes down to that code. Import your config and bring the ZD code upto your chosen code ready to import on your box.

What sort of settings do you have to change over?

I know that if my controller died today I could plug in another and input the same settings within 5 minutes?

Is it not as simple as an SSID and passcode?

Thanks Guys for the quick response, yeah I am not overly impressed with the supplier although they are trying to assist in a positive way.

The Zone Director 1100 is Firmware 9.7.1.0 build 32

The Zone Director 1000 is Firmware 9.3.2.0 build 3

I see White_FI you are based in Ipswich we are in Colchester - when it comes to the AP upgrades I will certainly be in touch.

Glad to here it. Always happy to help.

Are you trying to downgrade your ZD1100 directly to 9.3?

Here is the suggested downgrade path for you ZD1100 on 9.7.1.0.32

9.6.2.0.13 > 9.5.3.0.44 > 9.4.3.0.22 > 9.3.2.0.3

The suggested downgrade path does not work either!! Grateful for any further thought.

Thanks

Id suggest trying the downgrade via CLI.

Use putty or similar to SSH in and upgrade/downgrade the FW using FTP or HTTP.

If you'd like feel free to send the config file over to us.

I'll have it brought up to compatibility with 9.7
