chazzy2501 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I was thinking if I could get a 3D Printer pass the bursar for my Dept. They're now only £400, I could use it legitimately for spare parts for a few of the PC towers. I could get a 6th former to design the Parts (and maybe do some side projects for my self We do have an amazing 3d Printer (Strata) in Tech that's over a decade old but it's carts are £300! (no I can't hack 'em)
rickjames Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 We have a Makerbot, but obviously thats a little more than £400
Chris_Cook Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 shapeways has a pretty good service. I've done a spare part for a motorbike using there service.
WebBot Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 We have an Up! plus 2. It's really reliable. I think they have become so much better, now we're into the second generation of consumer models. I'd definitely say go for it. We've been printing all sorts for different departments. Word of warning though, find a quiet room* for it to sit in. If you use ABS (?) the smell can build up and feels toxic, even if it isn't. We have a small room next to our office and it sits in there with the paper trimmer and the laminator. * Sometimes the paper trim (which is this horrible pneumatic thing) can shake the model loose.
plexer Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I used to have a reprap mendel running pretty much all day everyday in my office behind me printing in PLA. Ben
