Forwarding traffic depending on URL

Hi guys,

 

I have bought a Fortigate firewall for playing around with at home (Similar to the one at work). I have a static IP address for my home broadband and I would like to be able to have several domains and/or sub-domains point to it and be forwarded to the correct physical web server at the other end.

 

So for an example:

 

External IP address 1.2.3.4 DNS entries for domain.com mail.domain.com other.com all pointing to 1.2.3.4

 

Router passing all traffic to Fortigate box

 

Fortigate box then sees domain.com forwards it to 4.3.2.1 mail.domain.com forwards 4.3.2.2 etc.....

 

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Im not sure on fortigate specifics but the functionality you require is known as a reverse proxy. See if there is anything in the manual for it about that.

if you don't have it on your firewall, you could always run a reverse proxy with squid on one of your internal servers

Yes its also the Fortiweb product which is completely different to Fortigate

if you don't have it on your firewall, you could always run a reverse proxy with squid on one of your internal servers

 

You can also try Pound - it might be a bit simpler to configure than Squid:

We have it handling half a dozen or so sub-domains from one IP address, including SSL termination in some cases, all with no problems and easy to set up.
