RDP Not Working - No Obvious Reason

Hi All,

 

Recently moved from Education to a small buisness (Less stress when things are working, more stress when they aren't!) and have had trouble with one of our two Domain Controllers.

 

It's running 2008R2 and has RDP enabled, but no matter what I try I can't seem to connect to it via RDP from anywhere on site.

 

I've checked the service is running, The limited Connected Users is set to two (No one else is connected), I can ping the DC from everywhere on site (Thank God!) and Everything is ticked to say RDP is aloud but it just does not seem to work.

 

Any ideas would be great, at the moment its only a small walk down the hallway to the KVM if anything is required, but convenience would be great if we can get this running again.

What clients are you trying to connect from?

 

Also is the user you are connecting with permitted to login via RDP?

I've tried from 4 in total.

 

One laptop on the wireless - Didn't work

Two user machines on the domain - Didn't work

Our other domain controller - Didn't work.

Yeah, no luck with that either.

and use a domain administrators account to login, what happens?

have you tried a port scan to see if port 3389 is open?

have you tried nbtstat -a from a client to double check the ip is actually the server you want to connect too?

firewall blocking rdp connections?

 

settings set to require secure version of rdp and for some reason clients dont match the requirements? what happens if you rdp from this server to itself with a different username does that work?

Try disabling Windows firewall on the server temporarily to see if that fixes it, we run without firewalls on our servers for this exact reason.

Firewall was the answer! - Although it's set the same for the other servers with the "Public" option unticked when I changed this option to be ticked on our DC it let me straight in from my workstation. Thanks for the help guys.
