Proactive checks

This is an old list of checks I've been using, so that I don't forget anything... but I've got a feeling it's missing stuff.

I've totally done this.

 

Our projector maintenance is outsourced. [Nobody felt the need to ask/tell me about it.]

Can't complain about that. That was a job I used to hate. I also clean touch screen computers in nursery and reception once every two weeks and do the laptops in the trolleys and classrooms and the iPads once a term.

 

Personally think cleaning the IT equipment is really important. Use a good, chemically smelling cleaner for maximum germ and grease removal!

A daily check I perform is to ensure the coffee machine downstairs still makes a decent cappuccino, change the drink to one which suits.

I see no hardware checks apart from support packs on servers. Do you clean the heatsinks/fans on your desktops, do you check laptops for loose screws, or replace the thermal paste on laptops over 3 years ?

I never seem to have time to do hardware checks... I always PLAN to do them during the holiday, then I end up having to reimage EVERYTHING or spend the whole time working through problems.

Less posting more cleaning perhaps ?

I don't know your PC/laptop numbers but it only takes a few minutes to pop the side/top off a PC case and clear out the dust buildup on top of the heatsink and give the inside of the case a quick wipe to collect any stray dust. Depending on your laptops, they shouldn't take to long either, 15 minutes to strip, clean and replace the thermal paste.

And that isn't complete. There's a bunch of stuff that hasn't been picked up for some reason...
