Proxy Settings Not Loading?

Afternoon all.

 

For about a year now we have been experiencing a strange little problem. It doesn't happen all the time and it only happens on laptops/netbooks (on wireless).

 

Students will log onto the system and get a "go.microsoft.com" homepage instead of the homepage what has been set, and also the proxy settings boxes are not configured, so this means we have to input proxy settings on about 30 laptops when the lesson starts. But sometimes it only does it on a handful, that is why it's strange.

 

With a bit of browsing around google, and other forums it seemed like IE11 was the initial problem, but the laptops have IE9 installed so I wiped that out the situation.

How are you setting your homepage and proxy settings?

 

Certainly when IEM was no longer supported in IE10 it through me off until we worked out what it was!

Can you run a gpresult and see what group policies are applying to make everything is working as it should? You could also trying pushing out a registry key with the proxy details is to see if that works. How many clients are connecting onto the wifi at once? Is this just in one area? It could be that the access point is overloaded with clients?

Been having the same problem - so far it only affects staff logons with IE11. Apparently that's down to the fact our main DC is running 32 bit Server 2008 Standard Edition. Therefore the server won't run IE11 in it's own right.

Have you got a Windows 8 machine that you can run the RSAT for Windows 8 on? You could then manage your GPOs on that machine until you get a Windows 2012 Server.

Through GPO mate, just had a look at the server we manage Group Policy on and it has IE11 installed. I've lost IEM since Windows Update decided to install IE11. Should I remove IE11, IE10 so I have IEM back?

Have you got a Windows 8 machine that you can run the RSAT for Windows 8 on? You could then manage your GPOs on that machine until you get a Windows 2012 Server.

 

Our MIS server is 2012 and this is what we do, works a treat

Do I need to run the gpresult for a specific username or just a general one? Already tried that reg key through a logon script. This is how it has been setup in GPO.

 

 

I'd say around 20-30 laptops log on, only 1 AP in each room. Using HP ProCurve MSM335 Access Point.

It may be a good idea temporarily. I had the same problem.

 

Then I'd look at moving your proxy settings etc.. over to GPP. It's a lot slicker to use, or I find it is. If you need any pointers then let me know.

Don't have any Windows 8 machines, I could image a spare laptop though. We won't get 2012 until September when we move buildings.

Years ago, with some old netbooks, I had a problem with a certain group policy not applying on the wireless and it was as if the network card wasn't booting in time to process the policies so I enabled the 'Wait for Network' option before anyone could login. Found under Administrative Templates\System\Logon. It's worth a shot.

Not quite sure, I am actually still pushing both policies out. I need to have a play with it over Easter (But if its not broken don't fix it?!)
