Zourous Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Sounds simple. Contacted the people we brought them from and they want the IMac plus the keyboard & mouse sent back to them so they can run diagnostics?? I know it's the keyboard because I've tried it on another iMac and it is dead! Plus the fact another keyboard from a different iMac works on the same iMac! To be fair to them, they understand it is a crazy way to do it but they are required by Apple to follow this procedure. Makes me think, that most people wouldn't bother and just give up and buy another keyboard, and that they know this. What made it worst is the fact that our iMac's are clamped down with security bolt-on stands and this is the first one we've had to remove. The site team put these in place, so I didn't know at the time that you had to turn the bolt clockwise (reverse to normal) to loosen it!! This is meant to be an added security feature. I call it just plain daft, and it doesn't help when the keys are made from a soft metal that starts to warp with every wrong turn meaning I've ruined two keys in the process!! What is the world coming too? In a way I wish I had just sniped the keyboard off and purchased another one for all the bother it has caused.
Carter Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Any other Apple shops around? If I had this issue the shop we deal with would just replace the keyboard. Apple does have a way of doing things but this is a bit overboard. 1
Zourous Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Yes one of my fellow technicians did contact an apple store and they said they could swap it for us, but there isn't one near us so it wouldn't be convenient travelling and wasting time doing it this way.
Zourous Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 Ok, bumping my own thread here. We've just had a Apple mouse go dead on us and have been told to send the whole iMac back to get it sorted. Does anyone else have to go through this? It's such a PITA!
3s-gtech Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 As Apple's mice are terrible, hateful things, we just swapped them for £3 wired Logitech ones are the world became a more beautiful place. 1

3s-gtech Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 We would have, but we just bought new keyboards - I figured it wasn't worth the shipping of an aluminium bodied iMac (our supplier may have paid to collect it, but there comes a hassle threshold with these things).

Yes, totally agreed, but doesn't that make you think they want you to do that? We don't have spare imac's so have to put up with missing imacs in an IT suite, which also isn't great if you have full classes. I'm just trying to find out if it is a requirement for all sellers of Apple equipment or just our particular one.
