For those running Office 365, and GAFE

We've been with Office 365 for about 2 years, students and staff around 25,000 accounts. Recently we stood up a GAFE domain for chromebooks, classrooms...etc. Here is what I would like help with, at the moment the office365 email domain is the one that is open for email from the outside and the GAFE domain users have to forward the message to their Office 365 email account for the message to get to the outside world. I'm concerned about having two externally facing email domains and the confusion that it would entail. If you have both systems, what are you doing? Thanks.

We use a hosted exchange server that is going away at the end of this school year along with Google Apps. We are absolutely tired of running out of space, maintaining a server, spam filtering, teacher and student confusion, and ll of the other issues that go into maintaining two systems. I have to say I'm much more of a fan of O365 than G'Apps, but I do think running both isn't going to help you in the long run. If you're investing heavily in chromebooks then I would agree that it makes sense to ditch O365.

It's mandated for us that we have O365 for staff, however students are on GAFE!

 

Teaching staff, therefore, have 2 separate accounts with 2 different logins and emails.

We can sort out password sync easy enough. Is there more we can do to integrate the two? I thought, perhaps, that we could set aliases in GAFE for staff with their primary o365 email and have their email forward on. Would that work and allow staff to log into Google with their o365 address?

Why 2 separate accounts? I presume you have a windows domain with active directory? If so then run ad sync and password sync for both 0365 and Google, everyone logs on with their ad credentials. Use your prefered system for email.
