ninjafish Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Hi All, I am needing to set IE as the default browser on 1000 computers and so would like to do so via a group policy but this simple task seems impossible. I have seen a few comments saying that it is not possable due to the Anti trust lawsuits. does anyone have a method of setting IE as the default? Any help will be great Cheers J
thepridster Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I know its not via GPO but try running command prompt: "shmgrate.exe OcinstallreinstallIE" If you use impero should be able to do this on multiple machines
ninjafish Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Doesn't look like shmgrate.exe is on our systems unfortunately i thought this would be a simple 5 min task before i started my research cheers for the reply
mcoyne Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Hello ninjafish, This isn't 100% what you're looking for, but we found that setting IE as the default for various extensions has helped a lot: 1
ninjafish Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Cheers Mcoyne i will give this method a try and let you know how it goes.
mcoyne Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 You're welcome, fingers crossed it at least helps a bit! You think this would be easier wouldn't you. The other side of this is whether or not you want to disallow access to other browsers, which you could use Software Hash policy for. 1
ninjafish Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Hi Mcoyne, setting the open with rules looks to have done the job perfectly, many thanks
thepridster Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 sweet I now know a different way cheers @mcoyne
