balticstar Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 we are about to move our pupils onto 365 accounts from our mail servers. The issue that has been repeatedly raised by SLT is the level of filtering/ protection that we will get from day one with EOP. I would really appreciate some feedback and recommendation on your experiences in a school environment. We will consider adding a third- party tool if needed but the immediate question is whether it will protect pupil (and staff to certain degree) from exposure to unsuitable material. Our puremessage filter worked well in the past.
m25man Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 In general the default settings in O365 beat Puremessage hands down however once settled in 365 provides plenty of scope to tweak stuff. Still get the odd .zip nasty sneak through but MS seems to quickly learn any new threats fast. Don't expect it to be any better (or worse) than Puremessage and the 365 web management interface isn't as easy to manipulate as the PM console. Learn some powershell if you want to do anything smart.
balticstar Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Could I maybe ask what third-party applications schools run with their 365 set-up. In conversation Mimecast has come up a couple of times. What is the experience of people using 365 with EOP only? Thanks
mnewnham Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 We use eop exclusively for email filtering but with local exchange 2010. It works well. You won't need anything else.
