T-Shirt printing?

We currently have an Inkjet in the textiles department which they probably use one a year for printing T-Shirt transfers.

 

According to various google threads, I think I've determined it is possible to print transfers on laser printers as long as you get the right transfer sheets.

 

Has/does anyone do this?

 

I want to bin the printer when I replace our copier fleet this summer, but I'm (as expected) facing opposition!

Is it not more cost effective to have a local/online company make t-shirts than have a printer dedicated to it? Will be better quality too...

I presume it's part of their textiles course?

 

I'm not proposing a new printer for them - the current one is one of say 12 localised printers around school - I want them to use the new copiers to print the tshirts.

Defeats the whole education factor doesn't it? If they didn't want to make them themselves they would probably print an image of the t-shirt with the design on.

I looked into this a while ago, its more problematic due to the heat from the laser printer. Lots of stories of inconsistent results and melted transfer paper in the printers.

I'd just leave them an inkjet to print tshirts, I think you will have less support calls.
