Marshall_IT Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 It is decent, not that 2011 was bad What? Really? Using 2011 while having 2013 on all my PCs has been driving me crazy! I'm not saying is terrible, but it's terrible in comparison. Literally every other office suite I've used this lady year is better than 2011.
rich_tech Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 From my PoV I found it better looking aesthetically, though before 2016 trial I didn't use outlook for my email here and it trumps iWork imo
Marshall_IT Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 From my PoV I found it better looking aesthetically, though before 2016 trial I didn't use outlook for my email here and it trumps iWork imo I forgot about iWork, I don't really count that as an office suite. So yeah, it was still better than that. Outlook 2011 was possible the worst part.
Marci Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Hope they've fixed the myriad of vba problems that were unaddressed in every preview release...! Even the most basic functions were causing overflow errors in the first preview, and still were in the last update.
Michael Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Could this be an indication that the Windows version could be released soon too?
Arthur Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Could this be an indication that the Windows version could be released soon too? There are two Windows versions of Office 2016 now. For those wondering about the next releases of Office -- the full Office 2016 for Windows suite and the touch-first Office Universal apps for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile -- both are on their way. The Office Universal apps will exit preview and be generally available for Windows 10 as of 29 July, which is the day the operating system begins rolling out, Microsoft officials said today. The full Office 2016 suite for Windows is still on track to exit testing and be generally available this autumn, officials confirmed. (Source)
Michael Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Microsoft seem to be doing a lot of right this time round. Dare I say it, the good OS, bad OS, good OS rule still appears to be the case.
rich_tech Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 This full version downloadable with the office365 faculty setup now?
Marshall_IT Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Yes, just done it. Although i have roplus through e3
Marci Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Vba editor (on Mac) remains more of a Cba. Has a tendency to crash if your edit causes the project to reset - best advice: stop the project then edit... avoid editing in break-mode. The non-parity between functions remains. In short, use an external ide for vba editing (eg: Coda in vbScript mode) then copy/paste into the excel vba editor. No form designer either - MS expects 'serious' development to be done on the Windows vet via boot camp/parallels... Essentially - 'we've made it prettier on OSX' is about the size of it. We get the newer charts etc, but no slicer support... no web service data source support - continue to use the 3rd party plugins if you want it as MS have said they're not bringing those features to Mac... blah. We're still several steps behind the windows ver with no guarantee of cross-compatibility on some of the (major) new features. Edited July 13, 2015 by Marci
rich_tech Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 vba has always been a sticking point with office on the Mac, I upgraded mine and it's all fine, beats 2011 in the looks department too and I like the one drive integration now
Marci Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 To be honest, the whole vba side of things was far superior in 2011 than it is in 2016... so I'm still running both versions.
