I'm looking for a load balancing and failover solution for our RDC (terminal server) servers. I currently have two and plan to add two more over the summer. I've been considering making a cluster for all four of them for load balancing and fail over purposes but only two of the four will have identical hardware components. The other two servers will have different motherboards completely and diff CPUs (speed and cores). Should this stop me from doing the cluster? Is this a common solution for sites with 200+ thin clients?

I just setup Hyper V on the servers if supported, and then build dual roles across the servers. For instance two gateways, two brokers, two web access and multiple session hosts. If setup correctly NLB or RR then users will notice nothing if a server was to fail
