Steve21 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Morning Guys, Just looking at getting a new switch in that can be used as a backup should anything break and was looking at the 2920, however I noticed on the support matrix it seems it's only supported with additional expansion card, where as cheaper models e.g. 2530 support it raw? Neither of them have SFP+, the 2920 have 2 slots on the back I believe that will allow you to add expansion cards. I still have a spec sheet for a 2530 series and allt eh supported SFPs are not SFP+ unless things have changed in the last 18 months. 1

Also, the 2920 is a basic layer 3 switch, whilst the 2530 is only layer 2, so the 2920 has more features. I have both 2920 and 2530 (I'm sure). Achandler Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) I believe the models have been changed then as the techsheet from the past clearly states SFP and the speeds as 100/1000. Gaz Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I've got 2 2920's and they have 4 1GB SFP+ ports on the front and you can have up to 4 SFP+ 10GB or 4 10GB ethernet on the back via modules. 1
Michael Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I can confirm all the above is correct - The 2920 supports 10GbE via rear expansion modules and an SFP+ and the 2530 supports only gigabit with front SFP modules. 1

Indeed, but we don't know if it's a spare edge, core etc. Just clarifying the model options, and the reason why the 2530s have them on the front (most newer models do).
