Apple Configurator fails to install iOS in school, but works at home

I am trying to Supervise 20 iPads and AC tries to install the latest iOS version. It goes through the motion but then comes back as iOS Installed Failed.

 

If I take Mac and iPads home it works.

 

Now I am only supervising them so I can manage properly with MDM but just wondered why it does not work in school?

 

I can only assume it is a filtering or firewall issue. We are with SWGfL but I have done this in other SWGfL without issues. And for filtering we use Lightspeed so I have allowed the Mac to have unfiltered access but still no luck

 

Any suggestions?

Can you update an iPad as a stand alone over the school wifi?

 

If it's on latest ios then AC will manage as normal. If you can update over wifi then it's an issue with Internet access rights

 

Edit - try adding *.apple.com to the allow rule

I'll try tomorrow to do a manual update.

 

I find sometimes though that even though the iPad has the latest version AC will still download and try to install it.

Is your network filtered?

Yes it is filtered but I didn't unfiltered the IP address of the Mac.

 

Plus is there a list of required domains they need access to?

Do you have a caching server turned on?

Is the filtering a proxy with authentication? I know iTunes can't work with an authenticated proxy.
