howartp Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Does anyone else use Sage 50 Payroll? I'd like to silently install the update files when they come out, and just wondering if anyone already does this? I know there's a .msi inside the .exe, which I'm tempted to roll out and see what happens, but any pitfalls with this? Peter
pete Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 We use it (and have done for a while) for our payroll. I don't silently update it because Finance are responsible for ensuring they've done everything necessary (financial procedures re EOY/IR/whatever changes) before the update.
elsiegee40 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Likewise our school has Sage Payroll, but updates are done when the Bursar asks for them. Changes at the wrong time can mess things up big time for the accounts as they are for things like changes to tax rules. It is especially important that year end changes are done at the right time in the cycle of the accounts process.
howartp Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Don't get me wrong, I've no intention of putting them on whenever I feel like it - but a silent install when I'm asked to install it would save me logging on and off 6 machines one by one, out of hours, thus taking the best part of an hour to install a 5 minute upgrade. Peter
howartp Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Sorry, just noticed why you've both replied negatively - I didn't mean "silently install them when they come out", I meant "silently install them... when the bursar emails me the link asking me to install them". Peter
FN-GM Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 It is something I would like to do as well. The software is a pain in the rear to update and pushing it out via SCCM would be so much better.

Peter Ah.. We only have a couple of people using it and I require their presence to check the data post-update, so they get on with something else and I do one workstation at a time during the working day at a pre-agreed time. Yep, I'm in the same boat. Although the Sage installs for me are only on the training lab PCs. It would be great if anyone does have info on applying the updates via SCCM. As mentioned elsewhere on the net, their tech support is very poor.

I have always found their tech support to great for Line 50, but not as good for Payroll.
