Got a PC, W7, Smartboard etc and the teacher complains the mouse when using it just flicks the focus to random points on the screen making it difficult to use. First suspected the mouse as it wasn't that new so swapped it and no improvement. Just watched it now and it indeed, just flicks to somewhere else when its being moved around the screen randomly (so teacher complaint valid). Any pointers as to what to look at next or if you had this before?

If its a long investigation process may have to use a sledge hammer to crack a nut and reimage the PC when I can.

Anything touching the whiteboard? That's the favourite answer to this problem. Also, check the Virtual Tablet device is disabled in Device Manager, although this usually just effects board alignment rather than wandering mouse syndrome. For laptops make use the trackpad is disabled as accidentally touching it while typing can annoyingly cause this as well.

I assume you've replace the mouse and tried different USB ports in case of hardware failure?

In our building we had to provide mouse mat's to our reception and community center staff as the desks they had really badly reflected the mouse laser/light back in to itself causing unpredictable movements

try a piece of paper under if that works get a mouse mat.

Alternatively remove the smart board if this solves it then you know its a smart board issue, then you can go on to diagnose why.

Yes, tried them first, no mouse mat (last mouse worked on table fine), checked nothing touching board, will disconnect board from PC to definitely cancel that option. Will let you know what happens.
