MS Outlook - Emails Automatically Deleting from the Deleted Items

We have a user who says that each time they shut their PC down at night (or most of the time) that when she starts up and logs in the next day all her deleted items have disappeared. I know that usually you do not want things in the deleted items but the user likes to keep them until they are no longer required.

We have checked that the check box for the 'delete the deleted items on exiting outlook' is not checked.

We have checked that no rules are set up.

We have checked that no auto archive is setup.

We have deleted the users profile and this has made no change.

We have checked the settings on the MS Exchange for the user and nothing abnormal sticks out.

(I have increased the users mailbox limit anyway - just more generally but it hope it may help)

We are on Windows 7 using MS outlook 2007 and the MS Exchange is on Windows Server 3003.

If you could give any advice I would appreciate it.

Many thanks.

If they were deleting it would be a server issue, All the items are stored on the exchange server itself not the computer she is working on. is it just her ? Is her profile being cached ? Has she set up any rules in outlook ?

Might be worth checking the most obvious stuff first.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the updates. We had checked a few things already including rules and nothing. Yes it is only one user. We did wonder if the user was accidentally deleting them some how but not sure? Ill double check the server as it is an annoying issue.

Many thanks.

Many moons back we had no end of trouble with standard outlook. We were on Office 2007 at the time. It has to be installed on the local machine and dislikes the .pst being on a network share. Is outlook installed locally?

Do you allow the user's to access their e-mail at home using Outlook Web App?

Theres a separate setting within there for Emptying the Deleted Items folder when signing out from it.

It is installed locally deployed via MS MSI. She is the only user to have the issue and there are about 150 staff here and 1000 students and no one else has this issue. We have setup logging on her outlook so we can check the logs tomorrow and see what is going on.

Thanks for you response.

Nice one. The option to 'delete the deleted items on log off' was selected on the web outlook. Typical! Apparently she logs on every day. It did cross my mind slightly earlier but as I assumed she never used it and it slipped my mind. Thank you. I will call the user tomorrow and check all is well but I think that has sorted it. Its weird that the option does not talk to the one on their profile in school e.g. like out off office does etc. Hope you know what I mean.

Have a good evening all!
