[sims] Newbie to Profiles help!

Hi, I'm a complete newbie to Profiles in SIMS. I have to set up a session for two math classes with a comment box underneath the normal grades. The previous year set up by previous colleague is still there in the Session Manager but it doesn't give me any idea how it was setup. Does anyone have any documentation that might help? Or a video floating around about how Profiles work?

 

I've tried to go onto the Captia Support website (SupportNet) today to see if there is more information but it seems to be down. I've check their youtube channel bu there isn't any how to videos.

The handbook for profiles can be found in the documentation link, towards the top right of your homepage in SIMS. In there click on Exams and Assessment and then expand the Performance and Analysis section under handbooks, the last link on the right should be called Managing pull/Student Profiles.

Profiles is a module that you need to fully undertstand before you let the staff loose on it. You can't go back and make certain changes once you are live. If some staff have started to write their reports, they aren't going to do them twice!

One reason I am not a fan of Profiles is it's inflexibility. Someone invariably comes along, says they want something changed and if that isn't possible to do then I can't use it. Never understood why we can't make on the fly changes so I've just avoided it. :/

If it's only for 2 maths classes then you'd have a much easier time of it if you just add a comment aspect to a marksheet.

 

Profiles are great for bringing together comments (using pre-prepared statement banks) for a load of subjects into one report - but if they want a maths only comment (and just one comment from the sounds of things) then it's complete overkill.
