Hi all

Implementing Spiceworks as our ticketing system of choice and so far am very impressed apart from the "Customise User Portal"

Seems a bit basic. Is there a way to create a completely separate page in Dreamweaver or Muse etc that can link in to our Spiceworks?

Thanks

There's a quite a bit you can do to alter the appearance, but its not that straightforward.

You can use HTML in the content blocks and once you start adding a few images in it can look pretty acceptable.

I use it for our 'portal' in school and it does a pretty good job - let me know if you want a screenshot.

Here's one article that goes a step further to creating your own custom helpdesk - it is pretty good but needs updating to the latest version of spiceworks:

Custom Help Desk Portal Code (v6) - Script Center - Spiceworks

I've always wanted a page that pulls out all the open tickets and lists who they are assigned to and how long they have been open. Trouble is I am pretty rubbish at any kind of web coding and using dreamweaver.

Just wanted it to display the tickets on a nice large screen which can be used to visually show what is going on :-/

Yeah if you don't mind a screenshot would be nice! I'll have a look at that link cheers

Its simple but staff and children can use it so it does the trick.

Looks good, did you copy that code from that link and edit it yourself?

No, I used custom HTML in each content block.

I edited the images so that they were all using the same size blue box to keep it looking consistent and used a

tags to get them aligned correctly
e.g. this is the HTML for the row of icons across the top

One thing to note is that when you upgrade to the latest spiceworks you have to manually copy all the images over to the portal images folder on your spiceworks server again.

Its currently here:

\\yourspiceworksserver\c$\Program Files (x86)\Spiceworks\pkg\gems\spiceworks_public-7.2.00207\images\portal

All images used by the portal are in that location, yes.

Actually, I've just remembered the only image that isn't stored in that location is the logo which is displayed at the top of the page. I can't remember where it is stored but to update it you have to use the Orange Preferences button at the top right of the portal designer page.

Make sure you have run the spiceworks backup before you start and you should be fine. If no-one is using the portal yet anyway then only you will know if you mess up! :)

How did you get the top logo to go all the way across the top? Ours cuts off

Ah, its all coming back to be now (we've had ours for many months). I don't think you can make it fill the top. Instead, use a transparent .png file for your logo and select from one of the colour fades in the Preferences page - that's why ours has the sky blue across the top.
