Hi

 

I have a bit of a head scratcher, I have 3 peices of software, Ulead, Audacity & Cubase that wont allow users to save to my documents. They can save to a shared area fine, they can save all other software types in my docs fine too.

I have saved as an admin and this works fine, so it does suggest some kind of permission issue but I cant figure out why just these 3 file types!?

We are running windows 7 and Server 2012R2 file server. Has anyone come accross anything similar to this?

No. in fact FSRM is running on my test network and that saves fine!

Just been doing some testing and Audacity does save the audacityfilename_data folder in my docs, just not the actual audacity file. hmmm I will keep looking.

I presume your end users have Full Control of their home areas?

Yes they do Michael. I think I have narrowed it down to my folder redirection, I have %homeshare%\my documents set and when I change it it just %homeshare% I can save so it seems that audacity and the other software may be getting confused with this. As I say all other software, office, Adobe etc... has no issues saving. I will keep digging on this.

\\servername.fqdn\share$

 

Users save data in the root (exactly as you said) and not a Documents sub folder. Alternatively try dropping the 'My' and just having 'Documents'.

 

So Favourites would be mapped as:

 

\\servername.fqdn\share$\Favorites

 

Downloads:

 

\\servername.fqdn\share$\Downloads

Thanks for this Michael. I have tried it and I get varied results, the reason I did the My documents part was to get the documents in libraries to tie up with the users mapped home drive H:

 

So in AD on profile I have \\servername\homes\Pupils\%username% set but what I found was that when users clicked on documents in libraries it did not match what was in H:, specifically it was pictures, videos, music (set in GPO as follow the documents folder) were not showing in libraries documents but were showing on H:

The problem with Libraries is that it also looks at content on the local C:\ drive, but all I will say is using the method I specified above it works in many Windows 7/2008 R2 domains I've developed or co-developed.

We came across something similar with Audacity a few years back in that our students required unlimited diskspace once we had set the user quotas to unlimited they were able to save their work.

 

Don't know if this is the problem your having though but worth a try
