Who allows students to use Google+

We are a Google Apps School. We are trying to use the "My Maps" feature of Google Maps and pasting in images from Picassa web album but it seems that to access Picassa you need access to Google Plus.

 

So does anyone allow students to access Google+?

We block G+ but have access to picasa

If I access the above link using a personal account I get directed to G+ Picasa but if I use a GAFE account I get to the original Picasa

Getting onto Picassa is not an issue. Its doing the Google Maps thing and trying to link pics from Picassa that's when it gets blocked if you don't allow Google+ in your admin console.

I would love to roll out Google+ but the T&C state no one under 13 can use it which makes it hard to police in a school of 11-18 year olds. Would love them to amend their educational version to 11+

You can enable it based on organisational units in gafe console.

We have our students enrolled in different OUs corresponding to their year level, so it is straightforward to turn on G+ based on age, which in fact we have done.

However, we thought students and teachers would start using private communities as a sort of classroom discussion board but this hasn't really happened.

 

Also, once G+ is turned on students can change their name to whatever they want - so Susan Smith can change her name to SuzyWoozy and this gets propagated through. So if you have contact sharing on people can longer find "Susan Smith" when emailing or sharing documents.

 

As the communities thing hasn't really worked out and we don't really use the photos aspect I've even been thinking of turning it off as the name issue is a hassle.
