Apple Configurator on different devices

Can I just check I'm not misreading something - can you configure some ipads with Apple Configurator on one device, then also use AC on another device to update them etc?

 

I'm asking because I setup some ipads using AC on a Mac, and when I installed AC (and associated profiles) onto a macbook, AC doesn't work as the ipads are 'managed by a different device'

 

I haven't found a setting to get around this, but I can't believe this is by design?

On the Prepare screen there is an option that is disabled by default "Allow devices to connect to other Macs". You'll need to tick it on the AC that initially configured them.

Hmm, I've seen that but its already checked. I'm having to Prepare them again on the original device anyway (damn you 8.1.3 update!) so I'll see if it corrects it this time.
