Noo! Phone screen broken! :( Warranty?

First time this has ever happened to me. Is sad day.

 

Sometime within the last hour, my phone screen has suffered a nasty break. No idea how, I don't recall banging into anything.. Right in the centre, at the bottom, right over where the pass lock keypad is, so I can't even unlock it or anything

 

Looking to be around £50 to get a replacement online, initial investigation reveals.

 

Might have to see if broken OPO's are any cheaper on eBay, though most broken smartphones these days are screen issues so finding one that doesn't work but has an intact screen will be a bit of an issue.

 

I'm just thankful iFixIt has decent teardown documentation, so I should be able to repair it myself. Maybe it's worth using my old XPERIA for a while and returning this to OnePlus.. But I don't know if broken screens are covered by warranty. It's technically user error, it's not an issue with the device in of itself.

Yeah broken screen is an insurance job. We have loads of cheapo fix your phone shops in Burnley. Have a look in town and get a quote?

It is remarkably easy to replace most smartphone screens I have found, buy the kit off ebay/amazon a few screws and tah dah u done it

Hm. I wonder if my home insurance covers my mobile phone..? It's contents insurance, not the building itself (landlord has that no cost for me.. Well probably included in the rent, but whatever..) so it should do.. Might have to get in touch with them and find out..

 

But are they really going to be able to replace it with OnePlus doing this invite lark still?

There's usually an excess to pay on a home contents claim.

I take it it a a smashed lcd as well as the digitizer ? If it's just the digitizer then its a cheaper fix but you will need hot air and a bit more skill to replace.

Phoned up my home insurance, they don't cover it because it's not an item that stays at home.

 

It's just the glass, I think. But I ordered a screen and digitiser (they don't seem to come separately, anyway..) online. From china, but official reseller according to OnePlus and various other sources. I'll swap it over when it arrives. For now, it's back to my XPERIA SP with a metric butt-tonne of updates 'cause I haven't used it in a year.

I have personal possessions cover with my home insurance, but I wouldn't use it for a screen replacement... £60 excess. Only if the phone gets nicked or broken beyond repair.
