SouthCoastSaint Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Does anyone here use dynamic groups with homepage message alerts? We have been using this for a long time with success but since 16th January no messages have come through. The groups are changing though in Sims when I check. We did the upgrade on 16th which would point to something there but I am unsure what and wondered if anyone else had lost theirs?
pete Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 My (behaviour-based) groups are updating fine according to the SIMS messages I get whenever the membership changes. But I only really use them as a "is functionality that I know someone else depends on working?" test. Are you using InTouch as well?
SouthCoastSaint Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Thanks Pete - I do rely on seeing the messages every day to tell me the transfer has run over night. In addition, we send new student and leavers messages to IT to create/delete accounts. We don't use In Touch but Capita did say that In Touch may cause some sort of conflict and require you to re-make all your discover groups. I hope I won't have to do that as we have lots of attendance groups.
AmandaLambert Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Hi, I had a similar problem, we had to reset/restart the "Sims Discover Group Synchronisation Service". For some reason it had turned itself off & had to be turned back on & set to automatic. The instructions our teccy followed were: 1. Log in as an administrator to the server that has Discover installed on it 2. Click Start 3. Run 4. Type SERVICES.MSC 5. Scroll down the list of services to find Sims Discover Group Synchronisation Service 6. Double-click to open 7. Make sure Startup type is set to Automatic 8. Click Start 9. OK 10. Make sure the status column shows “Started” Might be worth checking/looking at this.
SouthCoastSaint Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Thanks Amanda - checking that the service is running is always my first port of call. In this case, it seems that the groups have been affected by the upgrade as I have created new ones which are working now. I will need to re-create my old groups - Capita have closed the case but have advised to let them know if the same thing happens again with the Spring upgrade. I won't be happy if I have to remake all the groups a second time!
PhilNeal Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 It's unlikely that the upgrade would have stopped this feature working. If it happens again please let me know.
tombry Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 When I first started here we had the same problem, but since I've taken over the updating, it hasn't happened again. I never did find out what the NM was doing differently to me on install, but it happened every time SIMS updated, and he had to manually update discover. At a guess, considering how he likes to work, I imagine he was removing the old one, and installing the new
SouthCoastSaint Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Our transfer does appear to be running every night - the new groups I have set up since the upgrade are pushing messages to my homepage as expected. All my old groups don't generate any messages, just since 1am on 16th Jan which was when the upgrade went on.
